Nesting On Striped or Plaid Fabrics
To nest on striped or plaid fabrics you will need to:
- Prepare your fabric in the Material Library
- Place Alignment Lines in your patterns
- Set Nesting Alignment Options
- Turn on Snap Horizontal or Snap Vertical (or both)
Prepare Fabrics
Make sure the striped fabric is in your Material Library and its dimensions are correct.
In the Material Library, move your striped fabric to the current project.
On the Project Window, select your striped fabric from the material drop-down. You will see lines in the Nesting View that represent each stripe repeat.
Prepare Patterns
Designate an Alignment Line in each pattern.
In the Pattern Editor, you can designate up to two elements to be used for alignment during nesting. The possible settings are Primary, Secondary, or Clear (not used for alignment).
In the example below, the vertical reference line has been set to Primary Alignment.
Set Nesting Alignment Options
In the Alignment Group, whenever a pattern has a Primary or Secondary Alignment Line, alignment will automatically be set to Primary and Horizontal. From there you can change the alignment settings as appropriate to your patterns. The alignment feature is also useful as a grain line when pattern orientation to material grain direction is desired.
Turn on Snap Horizontal or Snap Vertical (or Both)
Now, when you drag a pattern onto the material, it will rotate to orient its Alignment Line with the stripes. You will also see the alignment line in each pattern “snap” to the closest line on the material.
Nesting On Plaid or Patterned Materials
To nest patterns on Plaid or Patterned material, assign elements in the patterns to both a primary and secondary alignment line. Then, from the Alignment Group dropdown, set alignment as desired.
When you drag a copy to the table, the alignment settings will be used to orient the copy. If you have Snap Horizontal and Snap Vertical enabled, both the Primary and Secondary Alignment Lines will be used to snap to the pattern grid.
