To release just one element when multiple elements are selected, hold down the Shift key and click on the element again. To deselect all selected elements, click anywhere in the drawing area.

Chain Select

Chain Select lets you select all the connected elements between your two elements.

To do a chain select:

Select an element. Hold down Ctrl and click on another element. All connected elements between these two will be selected. All the elements need to point the same direction in order to be selected. The direction of the first element shows you the direction PatternSmith will begin its search for connected elements. This is especially useful for selecting all the elements in a loop such as a perimeter.
