Create Tools
Creation tools are active tools. Select the tool first and then use it to create an element. When you select a tool, the Element Tool Window on the right has fields for setting options and entering coordinates.
Data Entry
New pattern elements can be created two different ways – freehand using the mouse (including snapping to other elements or the grid), or by entering coordinate data from the keyboard.
Freehand Data Entry
To create a new element using the mouse, click to create each point. For multiple-point elements, Right-click after your last point is entered to signal that the element is completed. Snapping is available while creating elements with the mouse.
While you are using any creation tool, you will see coordinate values in the Element Tool Window on the right side of the drawing area. The dialog will show your mouse position and the coordinates you have entered.
Creating Tool Functions
Selections
When you begin using a Creation tool, any previously selected elements will be released.
Snapping
The Ctrl key is used to turn on snapping. The cursor will change and all possible snap points will be highlighted.
Constraints
Holding down the Shift key constrains cursor motion to horizontal or vertical.
Coordinate Data Entry
Elements can also be created by entering specific coordinate information. While using a Creation Tool, press the Tab key at any time to move focus to the coordinate entry dialog area. Tab moves through each edit box. After entering the last point’s coordinates, press Enter to create the new element.
You also can change whether the point you are entering is in Absolute coordinates (x,y), Delta coordinates (delta x, delta y from the last point entered), or Polar coordinates (length, angle from the last point entered). Press A for absolute, D for delta, and P for polar.
Plot/Cut Tool Assignment
Assign a plotting or cutting tool to an element either before you create the element, or after. To learn how to assign the tool, reference the Element Tool Window page.
